When to contact an Occupational Therapist
Learners who are referred for an occupational therapy assessment, often experience difficulty within the school environment (classroom or on the playground), with their everyday tasks at home or to regulate their sensory systems/emotions, just to name a few. These functional challenges can usually be linked to a developmental hurdle, or a diagnosis. We provide support for a wide range of diagnoses and barriers to learning and development, including but not limited to:
General developmental delays in terms of gross or fine motor skills
Delay in the development of (hand) dominance
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) / Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
Visual perceptual difficulties such as difficulty with handwriting, letter formations or reading
Dyslexia: Specific learning disabilities (including difficulties with writing, reading, Mathematics, etc.)
Sensory Integration and functional difficulties related to sensory processing
General challenges in the classroom or at home related to inadequate attention/concentration
Physical challenges or diagnosis linked thereto
